Smartfren Telecom Tbk PT or abbreviated smartfren [1] (formerly PT Mobile-8 Telecom Tbk or abbreviated Mobile-8) (IDX: FREN) is a CDMA-based cellular operator in Indonesia 800 MHz which was established in December 2002. Smartfren have cellular service products under the name Fren market, launched on December 8, 2003 and fixed wireless access service with Hepi brand launched in the period of the first semester of 2008. Initially a majority stake in PT Mobile-8 Telecom is owned by a group of Bhakti Investama through PT Global Mediacom, amounting to 66.81% or 13.519 billion shares of a total of 20.235 billion shares of the Company. Through a series of transactions, Global Mediacom sell its stake in stages to several companies, last on November 11, 2009, which spends all its shares in Mobile-8. [5] After the release, the majority ownership of shares of Mobile-8 controlled by the Sinar Mas Group previously also has a PT Smart Telecom.On March 3, 2010, Mobile-8 Telecom and Smart together with synergy to create a new trademark named smartfren. Synergy business includes operating synergies over the activities of sales and marketing, customer service activities, the utilization of network bandwidth with, the use of BTS together (co-location) as well as human resource synergies. Synergy was followed by the acquisition of 99.9% stake in Smart Telecom by Mobile-8 on January 18, 2011. General Meeting Extraordinary Shareholders held on March 23, 2011, the company name later changed to smartfren Telecom Tbk PT.
